Young Art Old Heritage

14 Sep

Greetings Dear space Friends
An update on what the Aussie Emu has been doing in Santiago Chile
since I last posted anything of interest
Apart from being bloody cold here at this time of the year
all is going okay
I took a walk down to the local supermarket yesterday
to get a six pack of cold beer like we do in Australia
It was a bit weird as behind the supermarket
looms the snow capped mountains of the Andes
But I wanted me cold beer so it was worth it
Anyway a bit more of a story on this adventure in Chile
One of the things that has struck me most in Chile
 particularly Santiago and Valparaíso
is the peoples love and respect for the arts
The arts play an integral part of life
and can be seen in all aspects of their everyday life
As I previously posted I was fortunate to witness
The Argentinian Orchestra with their production
of La Milonga A Tango dance
Well last week I saw a show with a singer
who has always been an idol of mine with his beautiful voice
A voice that portrays Love and Romance in song
I refer to the one and only Charles Aznavour

His show was a sellout and even though the majority of his songs
were in Spanish they lost no meaning on my heart
as I have heard the same songs in English
One song he sang in English is probably one of his best known
and is the song SHE
The other song that touches my romantic heart
he sang in Spanish but no matter what language
I am sure you have all heard it
The song being
Dance in the Old Fashioned Way
A great show which I will treasure
The next form of artwork I witnessed was a street mannequin
if thats the correct terminology
It was a statuette of a miner
completely bronze from top to toe holding a pick axe
SantiagoCentroCopperMinerartist.jpg picture by crisfromvan
His immobility was stunning and when he moved
he took passerbys with surprise
The depiction or porttrayal of the miner was symbolic
of the fact that Chile is one of if not the major
copper mining countries in the world
hence the bronze colouring
The artist was a young student
and what made our aquaintaince more memorable
was that amongst his diverse languages
He spoke Australian
He makes the third person I have spoken to in Australian
since the six weeks I have been here
The final form of artwork I want to mention is street art
Now I know we have all seen in our emails and hotmails
the stunning boardwalk art by extremely talented artists
But the beauty in the artwork by this young man was spectacular
For his age his talent was awesome and demonstrates
a great talent that a lot of young people have
in this third world country
SantiagoCentroartistpaintingwithcha.jpg picture by crisfromvan
It was beautiful to watch the creation
Of the Madonna and Child in the making
Finally to close on the subject of art
I have not entered a house or bar or restaurant
that does not display some form of artwork
A beautiful country with great talented young people
with a strong heritage and deep respect
for their cultural arts
Emu signing of
Take care and keep smiling
